As part of its four-day festival called Lit & Luz, taking place
first in Chicago this October and later in Mexico City, MAKE Literary
Productions hosts an evening with poet and translator Daniel Borzutzky,
poet and critic Luis Felipe Fabre, and painter and poet Valerie Mejer
Caso.
Join poets from two generations for the 60th annual Poetry Day. Carolyn Forché’s famed international anthology, Against Forgetting: Twentieth-Century Poetry of Witness,
was praised by Nelson Mandela as “itself a blow against tyranny,
against prejudice, against injustice.” A 2014 Cave Canem resident,
Jamaal May was recently awarded Poetry
magazine’s J. Howard and Barbara M.J. Wood Prize for his poems “Per Fumum” and “There Are Birds Here,” published in Poetry’s February 2014 issue.
An audio installation created by Silvain Gire and Samuel Hirsch from ARTE Radio will
match/rub/clash city sounds and voices from Paris and Chicago. Against a
backdrop of trains, crowds and parks, six poets from the two cities
will emerge.
The Poetry Foundation and the Consulat Général de France will co-host a
reception on Saturday, October 18th from 4:00PM to 6:00PM featuring
informal remarks by architect John Ronan, along with writer and
co-founder of ARTE Radio Silvain Gire.
The installation and reception are a part of Open House Chicago, co-sponsored by the Chicago Architecture Foundation.
